I'm Major Dad, and I host Major Dad's — Best Day Ever! — a podcast about
fatherhood, family, and the warrior ethos of showing up for the people who count on
you.
I served 22 years of active duty across two services — first as an Army UH-1 and
UH-60 helicopter pilot, then as an Air Force fighter pilot. I flew the A-10 Warthog in
Operation Desert Shield and 55 combat hours in the F-16 Block 50 over Operation
Southern Watch. I served as a TACP / Air Liaison Officer embedded with 3rd
Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, and was selected for Peace Vector IV — a
diplomatic mission to Egypt with the Egyptian Air Force. I retired from the Air Force on
1 February 2002 and was rated 100% disabled for cumulative service injuries.
I'm a husband, a father, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner, and a hardstyle kettlebell lifter
coached by Shaun Cairns — the first person in the world to complete the StrongFirst
Beast Tamer Challenge. I plan on training past 80.
On the show I talk with parents, physicians, therapists, athletes, and warriors about
what it actually takes to raise a human being and stay in the game long enough to see
them grow up.
